Café Esplanad was established in 1994 at the historical Pohjoisesplanad and has ever since been a central part of Helsinki’s café culture.
Where it all began
Gunvor Backman and her husband Torsten established their first café 1957 at Helsinki’s Korkeavuorenkatu. Café Succès is still open today and operated by the same family.
Café Esplanad was born in 1994, a place opened up in the heart of Helsinki’s which was deemed acceptable for a new café. The time and place required a new way of thinking such as introducing alcholic beverages. We brought a breath of fresh air during a time of deep economic depression that presided over Helsinki.
For us customer service, freshness, and first and foremost quality are the guiding principles that guide us every day in serving our customers.
Our pastries, especially our cinnamon buns, have become a customer favorite. Every day our baked goods are made at our own bakery located at the premises.
We also roast our own coffee and espresso beans. This way we can ensure a unique coffee experience every time you step through our doors.
